to the age of 2.5 years are like a sponge, absorbing stunning amounts of knowledge from their
environment, rapidly and effortlessly. Dr. Montessori identified this fertile period of cognitive
development, and recognized the need for a rich, well-prepared environment just for children this

Our rich curriculum for toddlers is specially designed to

· develop and strengthen fine and gross motor skills
· allow children to learn by doing, using all their senses to explore the world

Age 3-6 years

“Education is a natural process carried by our human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences in the environment.” – Dr. Maria Montessori

By giving freedom to children in a specially prepared environment, rich in activity, children from 3 to 6 years learned to read write spontaneously. Children are ripe for learning at this early age, and more eager than older children.

“Our aim…is not merely to make the child to understand, and still less to force him to memorize, but to touch his imagination as to enthuse him to his innermost core.” – Maria Montessori

Every aspect of the Gateway Montessori School curriculum (Practical Life, Sensorial,Language, Math and Cultural Studies) strengthens the child’s independence, confidence and knowledge:

For its elementary program, the school runs the Ghana Education Service (GES)’s
system of Basic education. This is a ‘three-terms a year’ program, with subjects taught by
well qualified, well trained and well experienced teachers who ensure that learning is
interactive and practical. Our teachers are trained to identify weak areas of their pupils
and work with them to be better in these areas.
Students in the Elementary program are also offered the option of engaging in extracurricular
activities to help them develop and/or build practical life skills that are usually
not found within the traditional basic education program. The extra-curricular activities
run after school hours, and this a great way to unwind in a practical and healthy that
contributes to the all-rounded development of the child.
